The big list of 2024 GOTV postcard campaigns
This list is being continuously updated. If you would like this list to include your resource, please contact us.
During the 2020 election and the COVID-19 pandemic, I turned to postcard writing as a way to help support democracy and stay away from the virus. A lot of my friends and family liked the idea, and together, we sent more than 6,440 postcards to voters.
Yes, 6,440.
My sister and I wrote 1,000. Each.
I was so inspired by the way my community showed up, I decided to do it again this year.
Postcard Writing Campaigns Are Effective, Important, and Fun
But do they actually work?
Postcard writing campaigns are a powerful tool for political organizing and voter engagement. I’m passionate about them because they offer a different way to get involved than the GOTV methods that most people are used to, and best of all, they’re effective (though both postcarding and letter-writing campaigns do need more research). According to SisterDistrict, there’s evidence that postcarding has a small positive effect on both voter turnout and voter registration.
There are several reasons why postcard writing campaigns.
First, they are personal. A handwritten postcard is more likely to be read and remembered than a boilerplate piece of mail from a political party or candidate.
Postcard writing campaigns allow volunteers to have a direct impact on the election. Volunteers can choose to write postcards to voters in their own community or in a swing state. Postcard campaigns inspire a sense of duty and impact.
Postcard writing help get out the vote. In a democracy, all eligible voters must have the opportunity to participate in the election. Postcard writing campaigns help to make this possible.
These little cards help to build community. When volunteers come together to write postcards, they are working towards a common goal, inspiring a sense of camaraderie and belonging.
They’re also fun and flexible. I like to watch TV or listen to music while filling out cards.
They’re introvert-proof. No knocking on doors required!
If you're looking for a way to make a difference in the upcoming election, consider volunteering for a postcard writing campaign. It's a great way to get involved, meet new people, and make a difference.
Get Involved in a Postcard Writing Campaign
I’ve been combing the internet to find postcard writing campaigns for the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election, and here’s what I have.
FREE Postcards: Get Out the Vote in 2024 with MomsRising
Not many postcard campaigns include free stamps, but this one does! And because of that, it sells out, all 3 million postcards. And you don’t have to be a mom to write postcards. Not a mom? No problem.
This is how postcarding with MomsRising works:
Sign up now to write 20 postcards to remind registered mom voters to get to the polls.
MomsRising will send you a packet of 20 pre-addressed, pre-stamped postcards along with instructions.
All you'll need to do is write a quick note of encouragement (they’ll provide sample messages).
Then, send the postcards back in a pre-paid envelope that will be included in your original shipment.
Volunteers will receive FREE postcards and the organization will take care of postage.
Teachers: Write and send GOTV Postcards with Education Votes
Educators are encouraged (though anyone can participate) to write election messages to fellow educators. The deadline to sign up is October 1st and volunteers can choose a quantity from 100 to 300.
Volunteers will receive FREE pre-addressed postcards with postage.
Issue-specific campaigns
Fight voter suppression: Poscarding with the Center for Common Ground
Join Center for Common Ground to fight voter suppression in low-turnout elections. Register through the box on the right-hand side of the page to be notified of upcoming postcarding campaigns.
Volunteers will need to pay for postcards and stamps, and address the postcards.
Support reproductive rights: Write postcards for Planned Parenthood Action Fund of New Jersey
Remind voters that reproductive health and rights are on the ballot. Fill out the form to receive your stack of postcards, complete with easy-to-follow instructions on what to do and how to return them to Planned Parenthood, which will mail them out to voters.
Volunteers will receive FREE postcards and will return them to the organization.
Religious organizations and volunteer opportunities
Jewish folks: Every Voice, Every Vote: Take Action with the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism
RAC is currently running two campaigns. Volunteers can order postcards via the website and are encouraged to host a postcard party.
Voter suppression is racist. GOTV to BIPOC communities as part of the Reclaim Our Vote campaign.
Protect and expand reproductive freedom in Florida by encouraging voters to vote YES on Issue 4 to limit government interference in abortion access.
The organization requests a gift of $36 per kit to help cover the costs of materials and shipping.
Jewish folks: Volunteer with Bend the Arc
Bend the Arc does not have any national postcard writing campaigns on their website. Local chapters, however, might. Use their map feature to find an event near you.
Location-specific campaigns
Expats: Volunteer with Democrats Abroad
Those of us living abroad can still help! There are many ways to get involved in the overseas efforts. For postcarding, contact your local chapter. Switzerland is currently running a campaign to remind people to request their absentee ballot.
The Swiss postcard initiative includes free postcards, but volunteers are asked to pay for postage at 1 CHF per card.
Early voting in VA: Vote DAY 1 Postcard Campaign
Virginia's early voting begins on September 20, 2024.
Early voting means that voters can vote on their schedule, and candidates can conserve money and send out fewer campaign mailings. Early voting also boosts Democratic morale as higher numbers are reported by the media, signaling a potential victory. It’s a win-win.
GOTV in AZ, CA, MT, NV, NY, OH, and PA: Postcard Sign Ups with Activate America
Write postcards, support Democrats, and defeat Republican extremists in seven states: Arizona, California, Montana, Nevada, New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Activate America provides the script, cards, and addresses. Volunteers must provide stamps.
This organization does not supply postcards or stamps.
Michiganders: Write for Blue Wave Postcard Movement
Michigan is a crucial state in this election year, with significant positions at stake, including the Presidency, US Senate, and House majorities, as well as state house elections and two Michigan State Supreme Court elections.
With Blue Wave Postcard Movement, encourage MI voters to sign up for absentee ballots, a highly effective way to increase voter turnout since voters can cast their ballots from the comfort of their own homes.
Note: Postcards will be shipped and available for local pickup on July 29th and should be completed and mailed within two weeks of receipt.
Volunteers need to purchase postcards and stamps.
Candidate-specific campaigns
